Xiaomi recently announced its newest camera, the Yi 4K as a successor to its Yi Action Camera 2.
As the name suggests, the Yi-4K can shoot 4K videos at 30fps, along with full HD 1080p recording at 120fps and 720p HD recording at 240fps. The Yi 4K will be available in black, white and pink and will priced at CNY 1199 (approx. $184). You can also get a Yi-4K bundled together with a bluetooth remote and a selfie stick for CNY 1299 (approx. $200).
At the moment the camera is only available for order via crowd funding in China and will be shipped to backers by June.
In terms of specifications, the Yi 4K action camera boasts a 12MP Sony IMX377 image sensor with a 1/2.3-inch sensor size, 7P lens with f/2.8 aperture and 155 degree angle of view. It comes with a 2.19-inch display on the rear side with Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The Yi 4K also supports dual-band Wi-fi to connect to Android smartphones. Image processing is done by the Ambarella A9SE SoC which supports the H.264 codec. The camera will come with a separate app for image and video editing and comes with built-in features like time lapse etc. You can shoot time lapse videos by default with intervals as long as 0.5 / 1 / 2 / 5 / 10 / 30 / 60 seconds.
The camera is powered by a 1400mAh battery which Xiaomi claims can let you shoot 2 hours’ worth of 4K footage. There is a microSD card slot and has dual microphones to capture sound. There is also a 6-axis gyroscope with electronic image stabilization.
