Netflix’s biggest rival, Stan, has announced support for 4K TV and Movie streaming for its viewers in Australia. Australia has been one of the top countries where 4K TVs are selling like hot cakes. But, due to the lack of Ultra HD or 4K content available physically, the only real choice for people who own a 4K TV and want to watch 4K content is to subscribe to the Netflix Premium package that costs US$11.99 per month.
But there is a good news for Australian viewers. Stan, which is also a very popular video streaming service like Netflix, has announced that it has partnered with BrightCove to add support for 4K streaming for its viewers.
John Hogan, Head of Technology at Stan said,
“High quality video is very important to us, and we think that UHD is an exciting step forward. We are pleased to see Zencoder support the latest UHD HDR technologies as their technology continues to play a key role in the products we deliver to the market.”
For those users who don’t have any idea what Zencoder is, it’s an open source media which Stan is using to provide UHD content to its subscribers.
Stan still hasn’t announced any plans for its 4K streaming service probably because there’s still some background work to do before making it publicly available to all its subscribers.
