DirecTV has released a new version of its Genie Mini set-top box that can show 4K content on 4K TVs. DirecTV previously had its 4K UHD service running but now it has introduced it into its own set-top box.
DirecTV set-top box, Genie Mini, was introduced for those people who already had the DirecTV Genie HD DVR setup for their DirecTV subscription but their TVs were not DirecTV ready (TVs that didn’t include the DirecTV RVU technology). But with the introduction of new 4K TV set-top box by DirecTV, users can now watch their 4K content on their 4K UHD TVs even if they are not DirecTV ready.
According to DirecTV representative, any 4K TV that is supposed to be connected to the 4K Genie Mini set-top box device should have an HDMI 2.0, latest HDCP 2.2 anti-piracy protocol and must support a frame rate of 60. So it means that users have to check the specifications of their 4K TV model before buying the new DirecTV Genie Mini set-top box. Another thing should be noted here is that the new Genie Mini box only supports viewing a single 4K program at any given time.
Currently, DirecTV 4K offers a limited range of new and old movie titles in 4K for which prices range from $3.99 up to $15.66 for a single movie title. DirecTV guarantees that more content will be provided and users will have at least two new titles instantly if they have enabled the Genie Recommends feature on their DirecTV systems.
